Conditional gene targeting provides the best-in-class in vivo tool for gene validation in drug discovery and research applications.

ARTEMIS has developed a number of tools based on the Cre-lox system to produce temporal or tissue specific gene modifications.

CreER gene switch

ArteMice® Conditional®

TaconicArtemis has an exclusive license to key patents covering the use of the CreER fusion protein gene switch. In our experience this gene switch is the only system that has been able to consistently modify gene expression in vivo without leakiness or reduced efficiency.

TaconicArtemis has knocked in the CreER gene switch to produce a mouse that can induce close to 100% gene modification in essentially all tissues of the body, without leakiness. This unique and valuable mouse was published in 2003 and provides the backbone of the ArteMice® Conditional® approach. It allows investigators to study the effects of gene deletion in all tissues of the adult mouse.

Recombinase Zoo

TaconicArtemis has developed and validated a "Recombinase Zoo" to modify selected mouse genes in a temporally and spatially controlled CONDITIONAL® way. This technology makes it possible to inactivate (knock out) or over-express a given gene in the adult mouse in selected tissues and at a selected time point. ArteMice® CONDITIONAL® overcomes the limitations of constitutive knock outs such as embryonic or early neonatal lethality, compensation effects during development and developmental defects in the adult animal.
